Gabriel Cheung - Co-chair
Year: IV
Role in the Show: A little of this, a little of that. Making sure the show happens! Where do you purchase your clothes? American Apparel is great for basics (coloured socks!) and Cheap Monday for pants. I like scouring vintage shops for accessories when I travel, but Kensington Market has some neat places as well. Despite the connotations of shopping online, it's actually great for tracking down those special pieces (currently looking for those MMM replica sneakers!); plus you never know what amazing deal you might find on eBay! What are your fashion inspirations? The inimitable Francesco Cominelli and Iris Apfel. Also: Charlie Westerberg, Nicolas Ghesquiere, and Marc Jacobs; Mark Rothko and surrealist paintings; Nicholas Hoult in a Single Man. What does Chrysalis mean to you? A conflation of the beautiful and the grotesque. Also, I think of Hubert Duprat's work: http://www.cabinetmagazine.org/issues/25/assets/movies/duprat.mov. |
Beverley Chow - Co-chair
Year: III
Role in the Show: Co-chairs are essentially conductors of a really big orchestra! Gabe and I help set the tempo for the planning & creation of the show, as well as synchronize everyone's hard work so that we are all in harmony together. Where do you purchase your clothes? Aritzia, H&M, Urban Outfitters, Volcom and Forever21. I like Karma Loop for online shopping. What are your fashion inspirations? Lights (the musician). She doesn't confuse casual for boring - her look is comfortable with a little bit of a rock n'roll-inspired edge. As reflected in my own wardrobe, I love the button up shirts, loose tanks, plaid shirts, crop tops, skinny jeans & lace up boots she wears. What does Chrysalis mean to you? Chrysalis to me represents continual transformation in life. It depicts a dichotomy where something so primitive and impressionable can be weathered by natural forces into something entirely different. |
